Switching Power Supply technology was innovated by N.A.S.A. for use in rockets in the 1960's. In 1970, NEMIC (Nippon Electronic Memory Industry Company) was established in Japan to pioneer the development of standard switching power supplies for industrial and commercial applications. And in 1978, Nemic went into a joint venture with Lambda Electronics, the biggest producer of power supplies in the United States.
Nemic-Lambda thus gained a more global coverage, while continuing to expand manufacturing operations in Asia. Then in 1988, Nemic-Lambda joined with Unitech (U.K.), Europe's largest manufacturer of power supplies. This consolidation of leading positions in Japan, the United States and Europe gave the Company the largest share of the world market. Now in 1996, Unitech was acquired by Siebe PLC, Britain's largest diversified engineering group.
The latter then merged with BTR PLC in February 1999 to establish the renowned Invensys PLC. In October 1999, Densei-Lambda was established as a result of a successful merger of Nemic-Lambda and Nippon Electric Industry.
1 October 2005 saw the Lambda group join TDK USA Corporation.
With such solid background network of offices and linkages, we are able to bridge time and distance to better meet our customers' requirements and expectations.
On July 2005, TDK Corporation acquire approximately 58% of the shares of Densei-Lambda from invensys PLC and extablished TDK-Lambda to achieve a more resilient base in the power supply field, which is expected to continue to grow in the years ahead, by joining technology integration efforts with TDK.
